In our lives, we encounter moments that we feel like we are on the edge of a steep cliff.
Standing on the steep cliff, we eagerly hope that we can fly.
A bird is a symbol of freedom and hope. Creating the human figure’s shadow in the image of a flying bird, my works identify the human being who seeks for hope and freedom with a bird as their symbol.
Having only cutout lines, the human figure in this work does not have any differences in appearance nor in ethnicity. So, the focus would be purely on the human itself and not any other features.
The lines that shape the figure are cut from a two-dimensional metal plate, and when bending the lines, they become a sculpture embracing the negative space. That space is sometimes divided or sometimes connected based on a viewer’s perspective. In accordance, the figure image is bent and transformed like a person dancing within that space.
All of the ups and downs of our lives, ultimately, will become our dance of life. In my works, I endeavor to express our experiences, thoughts, and aspirations through the image of the human figure to reveal the exquisiteness of our dances of life.
